HM+CU+VC: sixth meeting with Vanessa – a conversation around her summary of our previous meetings and some provocations to help move us forward; noting our focus has shifted from materiality/resistance in digital creative workflows to a sort of critique of the digital artwork; restoring value to labor, process, skill as opposed to intention; how commercial digital tools work to excuse the user from concerns about process/procedure and create the illusion of computer-automated realization of intent; how search bars and AI assistants/tools recenter communication/articulation of intent and displace embodied doing; BCH’s dictum that the information becomes primary and the thing made from it becomes derivative (from Jacquard looms to 3D printers); pondering what we should be aiming for in our exhibition – “Are we capturing outcomes or processes or the relationship between them?”
